Abstract
This article is a contrastive study of the various aspects of “Dialog among Civilizations” and “Clash among Civilizations” theories. The two theories are first of all defined in short. They are then compared together in terms of a. presuppositions, b. practical application, c. necessity and d. criticisms.
The issue is finally ended in a conclusion. The selection of the topic for the article and the above-mentioned special rendering of it have been inspired by the author's curiosity about the following issues:
a. What are the similarities and differences between the two theories? (Initial question)
b. The “Clash” theory focuses on “how things really are” or “realities”, but the “dialog” theory stresses “how things should be” or “truths”. That is to say, the former has a descriptive value but the latter is of norm-prescriptive significance. (Major hypothesis)
