Demology and sociology originated so long ago as to produce a great host of sages, philosophers, geographers, travelogue makers, etc. who have all dealt with social affairs including customs and beliefs of many different nations. Ebn-e-Batooteh’s travel account, as one of the leading legacy works in the demological literature, is an authoritative source of information about Muslim nations of the Middle East and the Orient. The book, written in early 8th century A.H., is the account of a thirty - year trip.
The present article initially makes a brief reference to the travel account and then takes a glance at Ebn-e-Batooteh’s character; his writings are well-influenced by his character traits. The article derives such topics from him as social segmentation, social interactions, social justice, statesmanship, and the like. Every topic is treated from a demological point of view. The subtopics include feasts and celebrations, customs, marriage, women’s status, occupations, hospitality, palmistry, generosity, lucky and unlucky days on the calendar, wonders and attractions, shrines, burial services, meals, and architecture. These cultural aspects as discussed in the article promise to help demologists with a better recognition of the old times.
